What some of young people think

about Mint Brook Camp

MARK ROSE

I'm not sure who to address this letter to, so I'm just going to give
you a little spiel on Mint Brook!

I guess before I start I should say who I am.  My name is Mark Rose,
I've been going to camp for as long as I can remember, and I've been
a male CIT (one of a dying breed) for three years.

Mint Brook to me is a place that I can go and leave the world behind
and be myself without anyone judging me.  Mint Brook has been nothing
but one big memory for me.  And these past couple of years has been
extra special.  Being a CIT gives you a better understanding of the
planning and hard work is needed to run a camp, especially a week
long camp, and for all those who have directed these camps, I commend
you!

Also, Mint Brook is where I've met the bulk of my friends to.  I call
most of them regularly, and I have one person asked to my graduation
in May.  I have also had the privilege to take some of my friends to
Mint Brook, and they had a wicked time (just like I promised them).

In July, I will be attending my last camp because in September I'm
heading off to university and leaving behind many of my Mint Brook
friends, and mostly Mint Brook itself.  But nothing could take the
memories I have of Mint Brook away from me, and that's what will
stick with me forever.

Thank you very much for having such a facility such a Mint Brook
available to youth in this part of the province.  Sometimes I know it
must be a burden sometimes, but believe me seeing the smiles and
tears on the campers faces as they leave at the end of camp makes it
more than worth it!

     Yours truly,
         Mark C. Rose  CIT

ASHTON WATTON

I am Ashton Watton and I live in Badger's Quay, Newfoundland (for the time being).  Going to Mint brook Camp has been one of the most important things I have ever done in my life.  I've been going since I was eight years old and have been a CIT (counsellor in training) for 3 years now….or was that 4?

At Mint Brook I have met friends that I will keep for the rest of my life.  Not only is Mint Brook a great place to meet people (and to get away from your parents for a few days) but it is a very spiritual experience.  You get to leave the world as we know it today and get close to nature, leaving behind televisions, radios, and phones.

The first time I went to Mint Brook I had no idea what to expect, but it didn't take me long to fall in love with it.  This is sadly my last year in high school which means I can't guarantee that I will be able to return to Mint Brook, which is one of the hardest things to adjust to.  But it will always have such a close place in my heart and I will have the memories and friends with me forever.

I constantly tell people what an amazing place this camp is and I encourage anyone and everyone to at least attend one camp.   The more you go, the better you can understand and appreciate the hard work and preparation that goes into such a place.  So yeah I guess that's all I can say except to MINT BROOK ROCKS!!!!

JAMILA KING

My name is Jamila King and Mint Brook for me has been one of the most interesting and helpful experiences.  I have attended Mint Brook for over six years and have enjoyed every minute.  It is a place where even if you haven't been there before you feel welcome as soon as you set foot on the grounds. For the last three years I spent at Mint Brook I have been a CIT and have learned a great deal of leadership skills and gained qualities that I am sure I will use in my future.

Every time I attend Mint Brook I try to get there a little early to sit in the camp when no one is around and feel the peace that surrounds.  I enjoy some time to use my eyes and enjoy natures beauty.  Beside the place itself I have met many interesting, entertaining, wonderful friends that I can never wait to see next camp. Not only do you share friendship with people you have already met you always make new friends each camp. It is also an experience to know that as a CIT I am influencing  other peoples lives just as my CIT's influenced me.

I love to tell people of the amazing experiences that I have had at camp and hope they will come along with me next time. Every time I leave I always know that a few more people have enjoyed this camp from the tears shed because they have to leave.  I also like to be almost the last to leave to I can sort of say thanks and good bye to the camp before I go. It is a sense of closing until next time.  As a camper and a CIT I can say Mint Brook is one of the best places in the world as we know it.

JAMES (JIMMY)  HOFFE

Hello Everyone I am James Hoffe(my Friends know me as Jimmy) and I have been going to Mint Brook for the past 5 or 6 years. Mint Brook is the Most Beautiful wonderful place on God's Green Earth. There is S\so much stuff to do and, so many friends and friends to be there to greet you every time you step foot unto the big field.

I have mad the Best Friends at Camp and even Found out what love has meant there too, the love of God and the Loves of Life.  I wish that my Time at Mint Brook could be endless but I know that all the good things must come to an end.  I am going to University next year and may not be able to make it to camps I fear that this year may be my last in which I can't imagine.

I have be a CIT for the past 2 or 3 years and I can honestly say I have learn more doing this important part of camp then any other time, I learned responsibility, the importance of Friendship, how my action can affect others, and how to be a the best I can.

I am on the Committee for a NEW camp "Youth Synod" and it is going to be an Amazing time for all in attendance.  The purpose of this camp is to give a little lead into the "Synod" in which many of the Diocese's important decisions.

Well that is my little plug. I hope that you all go to Mint Brook and make the Life-long Memories That I know every person that has ever been there has.

"Remember all the ones you love are there because of God"

          Always
